Nearly eight minutes of slower scenic metal bliss, Sense Without Sanity (The Impervious Code), steadily progresses throughout bringing us more double basss, plenty of growls and pulsating verses. The track really captivated that evil ambience that cannot escape my mind. The following track falls under my favorites, titled, Victims of Contingency. Opera Metal on full force, we are dominated by in your face heaviness, rabid double bass and blast beats. I found myself headbanging later on when the track gets turned a notch up and gets heavier all around. An equal blend of Mark Jansen’s growls and Simone Simons charged vocals bring this Symphonic and Operatic track to heavy catchiness. The Essence of Silence, was the first single to be released. The track immediately takes us to the vigorous second track, The Second Stone. Nothing but speed metal, hard pounding drums and heavier riffage are very much present with the chorus slowing a tad enticing the listener with epic vocals and a killer solo with tapping that has feel to it. I can’t even imagine how wild the audience would go when they hear this live. What can this album be, without a proper introduction with the instrumental track, Originem. This track braces the listener of the oncoming suspense and ferocity of what is to come. This album is the first album with new bassist, Rob van der Loo. For those who favor technicality, you will find that here too and those who are already Epica fans, this album does not disappoint. You can really tell this album was crafted with utmost creativity, intelligence and Symphonic Depth. For those who yearn and favor older material, it is certainly partially influenced here. If you’re like me and bought the album or are planning to, you will find that it comes with a rare and particular artwork that is almost philosophical in a way. I think this is the band’s best and most diverse album yet. ![]() All around we are presented with smash shredding solos, leads, heavy riffage, copious amounts of double bass and blast beats, exceptional Keyboards both with a light and heavier presence throughout, and long epic odyssey’s that the band is known for. Their sixth album titled, The Quantum Enigma, undoubtedly has the sextet bringing a whole new ball game to the field. The masters of Symphonic and Progressive Metal, Epica, are back with a killer and refreshing album that has redefined the band in a prime stance. It’s been months since I’ve been anticipating this album, and today I can assure you it’s worth the listen. ![]()
